Service Beyond the Search

Service to the community is a NESAR hallmark. Beyond emergency response, our volunteers work to educate and protect the people we serve — always free of charge.

Hug-a-Tree and Survive

Teaching Kids to Survive if Lost

Inspired by the search for a nine-year-old boy, Hug-a-Tree teaches children what to do if they become lost in the woods. In a 30–40 minute presentation, our trained presenters share a few basic, life-saving principles: using a whistle and reflector to signal for help, staying warm and dry with a simple garbage bag, and how to attract searchers attention. Geared toward children ages 5 and up, it is ideal for classrooms, Scout meetings, and youth groups — and we bring it to your group at no charge. Many children are alive today because of what they learned.
